Six months ago you became part of your company’s change management team. Now
it’s time to assess whether or not the changes were successfully implemented. If
something went wrong, there are two places to look at first.
If the change management team did its job the transition was step-by-step with
plenty of two-way communication between management and its multicultural
workforce. Goals and objectives were clear; everyone accepted the change and
carried out their responsibilities flawlessly.
Things never go according to plan.
Communication barriers between managers and their multicultural workforce could make it difficult for you to find out exactly where things went wrong. A supervisor may be resistant and not passing on important information. Or, that supervisor may be having difficulty communicating his department’s role in the change management plan. Finding the source of communication breakdown will take some detective work. Be persistent.
Meaningful change happens when people change the way they behave. If employees have gone back to doing things the old way, change management missed the mark. Examine the new training plan carefully. Is it meeting the needs of your multicultural workforce? The training program must target skill gaps; identifying those skill gaps requires some in-depth analysis.
Remember it is not just about teaching people to use a new piece of equipment; it’s about changing behavior and the way employees think about things.
Remember...You Are a Super Hero!
