Are You Having Difficulty Motivating Your Workforce?

I have met many managers and executives who have difficulty motivating other people. They are working very hard to motivate employees, they pay them well, they talk to them and they try to improve their attitude, but many managers are failing to do that.

Why is it?

My friend Susan is a good example. She was a 30-something manager with a good background, good personality, and working hard but she could not motivate her employees. She asked me many times for advice. I think the most important thing she lacked was self-confidence.

She doubted at times that she was doing the right thing. She did not believe in her judgment. She had a lot of fear and constant stress. And she expressed extreme anger when something went wrong. Many times people could see her disappointment. More obvious was that she had a fear in herself.

It is important to motivate yourself first before you motivate your employees. If you don’t have a lot of enthusiasm and a good attitude, you are not well equipped with the right management tools. People will not believe in you.

Give yourself some positive affirmation and let go of what happened in the past. Take charge of your life. For example, you could say to yourself, “I’m doing great.” “I’m making things happen.” “Today is a great day.”

Put some humor in your attitude. If you think people give you a hard time take a deep breath and think it is funny. When people give you a hard time don’t react right away. Wait a while before saying anything. Motivate yourself with humor, exercise, and a good movie. Do some visualization and you will feel much better. For example, visualize in your mind that you are on a beautiful beach, relaxed with a nice wind blowing on your cheeks, holding a cold drink, enjoying the sound of the blue ocean and white sand, and people around you are laughing.

Now don’t you feel good already?

Employees love positive, humorous, and enthusiastic managers. They will be the best that they can be at work when they are motivated by a caring, supportive, and fun manager.

Remember...You Are a Super Hero!
